Thursday

Workout day four. I'm sore, I'm tired, and my right eyelid has the annoying habit of twitching on its own accord. I still can't squeeze into those skinny jeans.

Jaxon decided to start the day off by sleeping in until 8:30--I can't believe I missed that opportunity. He's sitting in his highchair (bribed with a poptart, because he makes such a mess with them--and a poptart, because we're out of nutri-grain bars). I think I'm making backwards progress...

Not much of consequence is going on; I may have a job, and Preston is working on obtaining his degree before the end of the year--my house is overrun with books. I need to go grocery shopping tonight, and you can imagine how excited that makes me... (I'm thinking my mental health can handle Fry's, but not WalMart).

Oh! But Preston did order me a new laptop, I'm very happy about that... it's a Dell still, but we got an excellent deal on it (and it's brown!). I have no idea when it will be here, but I will finally be free of this horrible office! Independence is (will be) mine!!!

Blanket Man!

Jaxon's new obsession?

Blankets, they make good capes. He's wearing a bit of breakfast on his face too.

Our Weekend

Starting another week in the Ruiz household. We had a good weekend, we didn't do much since Jaxon's eye was yucky (it looks better today), but we did manage to hit the Greek Islands Grill in town--the gyros are delicious!Other than that, we hit Wal-Mart twice and cleaned up the back yard (it was starting to look like a jungle out there from all the rain we got two weeks ago!).
Preston's brother, Bryan, goes in for his hip surgery today, He's in Korea by himself--so we're asking for prayers for a safe operation and quick recovery. Also prayers for his wife, Vanessa--who is here in the states and pregnant, I know she's worried for him. We love and miss them both.

Ouch

Preston took Jaxon out for a jog this morning, and when they came back, Jaxon started rubbing his right eye. I'm not sure if it's an infection or if he has something in it--we've tried irrigating with water and saline solution, but it doesn't seem to help. Poor little guy.

OCD, toddler-style

Jaxon has "groups" of cars that he plays with. We must already have a collection of 20 or so Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars that all go together in a box at the end of the day--but Jaxon pulls out certain groups in the mornings. There are the cars Grandma Dina gave him, the cars Daddy gave him, the tractors, the trucks/SUVs, the two yellow cars that Grandma Ann gave him... and a group of what's left over. He used to be pretty neurotic about it--but I've noticed that the groups are at least starting to "play" together, although if they separate, they still separate into their designated groups. Quirkiness or neuroticism? He spends a lot of time lining them up nicely, too.

The cars are making ever-increasing trips into odd places. They used to end up in my Tupperware and baking dishes, but I found two tucked under the blankets on my side of the bed the other evening, and some in the broiler drawer yesterday.

Today marked the final stand against the highchair. Jaxon now refuses to sit in it, and will move his food from the highchair tray to the kitchen table so he can sit there now.

Jaxon, sitting at the "big boy" table a few weeks ago. Pardon the laundry in the background.

Dancey Time

Sometimes I just don't know...

Terrified

...of big changes coming down the pike. Excited, too--but mostly terrified. More on that later, but the ball is rolling.

Jaxon's been walking around all morning, saying "sick" and "nasty" under his breath. I wonder sometimes...

We successfully swapped out pop-tarts (his until-recent morning staple) with Nutri-grain bars. Pretty devious, he doesn't suspect a thing. Excuse me, I think I just heard the refrigerator door open...

The bane of my existence.

Doorknob covers. Nothing makes you feel like a monkey faster than fidgeting with a doorknob for five minutes.

Bought Jaxon crayons and a coloring book last night--kept him busy for 10 minutes--long enough to clean the kitchen without him underfoot. I might add that it took him about 30 seconds to figure out how to remove the crayon from the holder and stick it in his mouth, but they must not be very appetizing, since he didn't finish the job. Some crayon actually made it on the coloring pages, and now I have his very first artwork to hang on the refrigerator!

Therapy

I'm not sure if I'm more excited about starting a blog, or that my son is still sleeping.

Picture for today: Jaxon tried to sit on a box that was flipped over the wrong way. The fact that I took a picture before I helped him out of the box is probably going to cost us years of therapy.
