Happy First!

Dear Avery,
A year ago today, your Auntie Heather was in Las Vegas--packing boxes and taping boxes and marking boxes and generally occupying her mind with everything boxes. And then, your Grandma called to say that your Mama was in the Hospital. Well, Auntie wasn't initally too concerned that she was going to miss the birth of Trezise baby #3, since it was almost a month before your due date, so we waited to hear that your Mama was being sent home after a case of paranoia. And then a few hours later, Auntie answered another of Grandma's calls.
"Heather? It's a girl, she's beautiful. They're both okay." And I could hear you crying in the background.
And suddenly, I had a niece. A much, much hoped-for niece. We love your big brothers so very much, but we all knew that deep down, your Mommy and Daddy were hoping for a little girl.
I don't remember the rest of the phone call, but I remember crying a lot. In fact, I think Uncle Preston was beginning to worry until I was able to croak out "A girl" (and then he realized it was just those Willoughby hormones).
Miss A, Sister Friend, Avery Lou Who... we all adore you, we adore those big blue eyes and your chubby little cheeks, we delight in your little piggy tails and your adorable outfits, and how much your Mommy loves to dress you up. We love your sassiness and how very intelligent you are, we admire the naughty things you do, and we get a kick out of how you have the entire family wrapped around your little fingers. We have had so much fun watching you grow in the last year, although you've been in a couple of rough scrapes--you've come through it all with flair. You're a beautiful little girl, and we can't wait to see what the future brings for you. Happy First Birthday!
Love,
Your Auntie Heather

Awww, Auntie Heather, that was the sweetest thing! It made me cry. Avery appreciated it too (as much as she "appreciates" anything). We are so excited to see everyone. We cannot wait! Thank goodness for birthdays; they are a great excuse for family gatherings!

It been a whole year already. Wow...and almost a whole year since you abandoned me in Vegas. I am still not over it.
